Terrific Baby Games

Before babies 1st birthday, you can play silly little games that involve co-ordination, movement. and focus with baby. All that help in their growth and developement as well as being fun...

Peek-A-Boo
This is a huge favourite amongst babies -- and never outdated, It helps babies understand the idea that when you leave you do come back, and helps prepare them from infancy too toddlerhood for  daycare, bedtime, and childminding adjustments.

Come and Get It
Place a toy or other appealing object just out of your babies reach and get them  to grab for it or crawl toward it. make sure once they get the object you  make a big deal out of it, like they just won first place in a running race..(reward them with lots of hugs, squeals of delight etc)

Find Your Nose
Your baby loves all of his many parts and pointing them out can be a real thrill. Ask, "Where is your nose?" "Where are your toes?" and watch your child thrill at his ability to point to the right place.

Lap Rides
A small amount of movement on your lap is the  thrill sensation of a rollercoatser ride for a baby it can even be more fun whilst singing or doing rhymes... Be careful too not drop the baby or jostle their neck or head.

Where Is It?
Hide an object in your hand under a blanket etc, then say "where is it" let the baby hon in on where your hiding the object (squeaky objects are best) Once they have grasped the idea of finding an object you can lengthen their attention psan by hiding more then one object at a time.

Patting and Clapping Games
Rhymes that include action, such as "pat-a-cake" and "This little piggy" excite many of your child's senses, and baby becomes more familiar with these, he delights in you doing new moves and learning new ones--» "get creative"

Stickers Galore
Buy star or circle stickers, then stick one on your nose or forehead,
Allow baby to touch your face to try and get the sticker off, when they touch the actual sticker pull a silly face and make silly noises--»
After a small amount of time reward baby by sticking the sticker onto their nose or face... (make sure stickers are not left on babies face, eaten or left lying where baby can reach them)

Teething Tricks

Grandma's Always right:
The 2 best tips we got for little teething help were from
grandma's..
Products for teething include the much needed gels and  baby tylenol
if it really gets out of hand.. but what if you not stocked up on those?
How do you relieve the little one when her pegs are sprouting?
Well aside from the saline filled teething rings that most babies just don't seem to "really" teeth on
or plastic chunky beads and /or keys, and other various  forms of teething toys we purchase by the cart load hoping with abandonment that they will solve the problem...
Unfortunately  they usually don't work that wonderfully and we waste a bunch of money on products that our little ones chew once they have  their teeth and don't really need those teething rings anymore...
Score 10 for Grandma...She has the best little rememdies:
Teething Rusks are a must.. and why buy when you can make your own?
Toast nice think toasting bread and store it in a container  "perfect for teethers"
Buy the  waffle fingers and give them too a teether "Frozen" they'll gnaw away  and the beauty of them is the fact they are frozen helps relieve them swollen little gums..
And the  other one which we tried and it also works is:
Thoroughly wet a clean (just for baby) face washer put it in a zip lock bag..
Then Put it into the freezer until its frozen, Remove from the Bag and let baby chew on it..
Works absolute wonders...
I keep a few frozen ones in zip lock bags still for bumps and scratches from  learning walkers little outside mishaps, they are easier to use then ice in a bag and as they melt you can wipe away tears...
Or in the case of a cut "germs"

We hope this helps you with your little ones teething issues...

The Best Ways Too Take Your Childs Temperature

When you report fevers to your doctor, always tell him/her the method used that you took your child's temperature with also mention the type of thermometer you used!
(bringing it with you can also be useful).
This is how each method  is used, and its benefits!

Rectal

Is the most internal and obviously the most accurate form of taking temperatures, many doctors recommend taking a rectal temperature in babies and children 3 years of age and younger. With the appropriate type of thermometer. (mercury ones read best)

Oral
Placing the thermometer under the tongue with children over 3 is also pretty accurate, The shild needs to keep their mouth closed for 2-3 minutes and they must not have drunk any cold nor hot liquids prior to the reading... (we reccommend at least 20 minutes after they have drunk fluids before attempting an accurate reading!) The use of either digital or mercury thermometers with this method are both fine although the experts say mecury is still the better choice, others tend to say digital is just as accurate..

Ear
Tympanic thermometers give extremely good accurate readings with this method, but they're most certainly overly expensive. Inserting them into the childs ear canal correctly is essential for a correct and accurate reading, The build up of ear wax can cause inaccurate results, we suggest not to use this method when the child displays ear-ache, fluid in the ear or other ear infections..Its also important to note a consistant cold or allergy issue and realise these may cause build ups of fluid or wax and your reading could also result inaccurate...

Underarm
In this position all readings are the most inaccurate, but with small children its the lesser of two evils..They tend to have issues with things being inserted into the above body parts so the majority of the time this method is used.
Using a digital thermometer under the arm results in a less accurate reading then the use of a mecury one. However using either for 4-5 minutes should result in a fairy decent reading, it should good enough to let you know whether or not your child has a raised or lowered temperature.

Please Make Note
The best solution is obvious- if you cannot get a correct reading by the use of a thermometer at home, and your child is displaying symptoms of unwellness taking them too your doctor, pediatrician, walk-in clinic or hospital is of the utmost importance. Any child with a high temperature for any considerable length of time 12- 24 hours should be seen too and/or treated immediately by a doctor, If your child displays a temperature make sure they drink alot of  fluids, like water or pedia-lyte, to help keep their temperature down and stop dehydration. Baby Advil/Tylenol or other Doctor reccomended fever reducing drugs can also be administered with approval by your doctor!

We wish your child Well and hope this helps you
understand  the methods used and to help you
take your childs temperaturemore accurately in the future..
